Holidaymakers encouraged to secure adequate cover for foreign travel after spate of recent holiday firm collapses
Despite a recent spate of package holiday firms collapsing, one in four British holidaymakers are still landing on foreign soil without proper insurance cover, according to a survey undertaken by http://www.protectyourbubble.com.
That means every year millions of Britons are uninsured against theft or loss of personal items, injury and illness, and even flight and hotel cancellations.
The most frequent mishaps abroad include lost luggage, sunburn, injuries, food poisoning and theft of valuable possessions. In these situations, insurance taken out beforehand would have covered travelers.
The survey, which was based on 3,000 holiday makers, was undertaken by UK insurance firm Protect Your bubble, which specialise in both travel insurance and cover for luxury items such as iPhone insurance.
Stephen Ebbett, spokesperson for Protect Your Bubble, said: “Britons often spend months saving up for their one summer holiday abroad every year, and really look forward to a relaxing break in the sunshine. So it is understandable that when something goes wrong – such as finding out the accommodation isn’t as expected, or the aeroplane is delayed by several hours – people will be disappointed.”
